On March 18, Microsoft released an update to fix the Stop Code "APC INDEX MISMATCH" bug after you updated and installed the KB5000802.

Below are detailed instructions to help you update and install this patch. The patch has the following names: KB5001649

There are 2 ways to help you install this update:

 Method 1: Use the Windows Update function on Windows 10 

 

Step 1: Go to Settings> Select Update & Security


Step 2: Click Windows Update on the left side of the window that appears.


Step 3: Navigate to the following: Optional quality update available. Now you will see an update named: KB5001649.


Step 4: Click Download & Install to update and install.


Step 5: After the installation is complete, please Restart the computer to complete.

 Method 2: Download and install directly on Microsoft Update Catalog 

 

In case Windows Update does not show the above update, or in the process of processing (in method 1) an error occurs. You can use the method below.


Step 1: Go to the following web address:

Step 2: In the search field, type KB5001649 to navigate to this update.
A list of the KB5001649 updates will appear. Find the right update for your computer.
To find out exactly you do the following:
Go to Settings> System> About> Go to the following items:

  • System type: 32 or 64 bit?
  • Edition: Windows 10 Pro or other version?
  • Version: 20H2 or 2004 or 1903…?

As my computer is: 64 Bit, Windows 10 Pro & 20H2


Step 3: After finding the version that matches your computer's configuration, click Download to download it.
Step 4: Once the download is finished, install it. Installation time is quite long because this version is quite heavy.
Step 5: Restart your PC and check if there is still the blue screen error "APC INDEX MISMATCH".


Conclusion:  

After you install and update the KB5001649 patch, the KB5000802 update will automatically disappear, and will fix the error "APC INDEX MISMATCH". As below
Fortunately, Microsoft released this update early to fix the blue screen of death. From now on, you can safely update windows without worrying about this error happening again..
