“Your Microsoft Exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance.”

Hi Everyone,

Users will see the following error message in Outlook:

“Your Microsoft Exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance.”

Download & Install Microsoft 365 Apps by Office Deployment Tool

Outlook will now be disabled or trying to connect. You CAN NOT send and receive any email.

The reason is that you are using Microsoft 365 (email service) on Office (Outlook) 2007, 2010, 2013. Detail as below:

"After November 1, 2021, only Outlook 2013 Service Pack 1 (with latest fixes) and later will be able to connect to Microsoft 365 services. It’s worth noting here that Outlook 2007, 2010, and Office 2013 versions earlier than 15.0.4971.1000 *and Office 2016 versions earlier than 16.0.4600.1000 aren’t supported"

If you are using Office 2007, 2010 please note the following times, your Outlook will not be able to connect to Mail Exchange (Microsoft 365):

  • The block will start rolling out on November 1st 2021 for users on Outlook 2007 and will proceed in a phased rollout.
  • The block has started rolling out for Outlook 2010 users on January 11, 2022 and will proceed in a phased rollout.

Outlook users will see the following error message in Outlook, when they experience the block that we are rolling out: “Your Microsoft Exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance.”

Why are we blocking old versions?

Older versions of Outlook, such as Outlook 2007 and 2010 are incompatible with the following upcoming service changes, which is prompting this controlled block:

  1. Support for basic authentication is ending to increase the security of Microsoft 365 by relying on modern authentication protocols, which are not only more secure, but also provide compliance and policy controls to help you manage your data.
  2. We’re working on adding support for HTTP/2 in Microsoft 365. HTTP/2 is a full duplex protocol, which decreases latency through header compression and request multiplexing. On the service side, we’ll be able to better prioritize requests and more effectively push data to clients.
  3. It can be a challenge to stay current, but there are many reasons why staying current is a good idea:
  4. Security fixes will protect your devices against known vulnerabilities.
  5. Reliability – over the last five years we’ve eliminated 75% of crashes in Outlook!
  6. Updated versions have all the coolest new features to make your life easier!

Solution

Users can immediately start using Outlook on the web through a browser on their Windows (or any other) device. This is temporary solution.

I recommend switching to Office 365 or higher versions of Office like Office 2019 or Office 2021.

What version of Windows are there?

Ever wondered what version of Windows your computer is running? For example, Windows 11, Windows 10 or Windows 7...

Knowing this basic information is essential for every computer user. What will it help you?

  • You will know what software you can install, choose the software for the right version of Windows
  • Install the driver for the computer
  • Get help faster on something

And to recognize it is extremely simple, you do not need to be too knowledgeable about computers. Here are the Windows versions (I will sort the versions from highest to lowest).

Windows 11:

This is the latest version of Windows officially released by Microsoft in October 2021. Currently, the number of Windows 11 users is still quite small. You will see it a lot in the next few years. This is the official look and feel of Windows 11:

Did you notice, for Windows 11, the location of the Start Menu is in the middle of the Taskbar. This is the most noticeable point (as it is the biggest change compared to Windows 10 and Windows 7).

In particular, the design of icons for folders and files on Windows 11 is different from previous versions.

Windows 10:

Currently this is a very popular version in the world. And your computer is most likely also using Windows 10. More specifically, if you buy a new computer, I am 99.99% sure you are using Windows 10. And here is the main interface (GUI) of Windows 10:

You see, the Start menu on Windows 10 will be located in the bottom left corner of the screen, with the typical Windows icon. This point helps you differentiate between Windows 11 and Windows 10.

And just like Windows 11, if you right-click on the Windows icon, you will see the Power User Menu:

Power User Menu

Also, pay attention to the folder icon of Windows 10. You will see the difference with Windows 11 and Windows 8, 7 & Vista.

Windows 8 & 8.1

This is a rather special version. Currently very few users use Windows 8 or 8.1. Why? Because it has too many bugs and is not stable. The typical interface of Windows 8 and 8.1 is the Metro interface. To do this, press Windows (hotkey), or click the Windows (Start) icon at the bottom left of the screen.

Windows 7

If you are using Windows 7, it will look like this:

The Start button icon is typical of Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However, fits completely inside the taskbar, unlike the one for Windows Vista.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista was the previous version of Windows 7. A version that marked Microsoft's true innovation. Completely different from Windows XP. And here is what it looks like:

As you read in the Windows 7 section above, both versions of Windows have similar Start buttons and menus. One way to tell them apart is to look at the button itself—the one in Windows Vista, unlike in Windows 7, extends above and below the taskbar.

Windows XP

This is a nostalgic version of Windows for the 9x generations. There are still users who are using this old version of Windows today.

That identifying feature is the Start button at the bottom left corner of the screen. Not to be confused with any previous version.

Conclusion:

Above are 6 popular versions of Windows: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 or 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
I hope this article will help you easily distinguish the versions of Windows. As a casual user you should know these basics. It will help you a lot while using the computer.

How to do:

Step 1: Download the Office Deployment Tool at here.
(Note: Operating systems that support this Tool: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019)

Step 2: Run Office Deployment Tool file that downloaded. After the installation is complete, find the folder containing this toolkit. As below:

In this folder you will easily see the following files:

  1. Setup file
  2. Some XML configuration files. Here are some pre-built XML configuration files from Microsoft. You can use it to download and install Office 365, Office 2019 Enterprise.

However, in this article I will guide you to download and install the Office Standard 2019 version. Therefore, we must have standard XML configuration file to do it.

Step 3: Create a configuration file (.XML) for Office Standard 2019 with the instructions as below:

  1. Create a file with the name "config" and the extension ".xml"
  2. Insert the content into the newly created "config" file as follows:

<Configuration ID = "fc26921b-cd2c-478f-9267-4d8cc9fadffb">
  <Add OfficeClientEdition = "64" Channel = "PerpetualVL2019" ForceUpgrade = "TRUE">
    <Product ID = "Standard2019Volume" PIDKEY = "12345-67890-12345-67890-12345">
      <Language ID = "en-us" />
      <ExcludeApp ID = "Groove" />
      <ExcludeApp ID = "OneDrive" />
      <ExcludeApp ID = "OneNote" />
      <ExcludeApp ID = "Publisher" />
    </Product>
  </Add>
  <Property Name = "SharedComputerLicensing" Value = "0" />
  <Property Name = "PinIconsToTaskbar" Value = "TRUE" />
  <Property Name = "SCLCacheOverride" Value = "0" />
  <Updates Enabled = "TRUE" />
  <RemoveMSI />
</Configuration>

If you cannot create this configuration file yourself, you can download it here to use it.

Step 4: On the folder path containing the setup.exe file, type CMD. The purpose of this is to help you launch the CMD in the correct path. As the image below:
Run cmd on the link containing the setup fileThe command-line window appears with a link pointing to the folder containing the setup file

Step 5: Download Office Standard 2019 by typing the following command on the command-line window

setup /download config.xml

Note: Do not execute any other commands until the download command has finished. To realize this, see the following image:

The download command in progress will look like this!

 Download command DONE!

 Office Folder after the download is completed (About 2GB of space)

Step 6: After the download command is finished, install Office Standard 2019 using the following command on the available command-line window:

setup /configure config.xml

Now the installation will be done, you just need to wait until the process is finished.

P/s: If you want to download and install Office 365 or Office 2019 Enterprise, the way to do it will be the same, except you change the corresponding configuration file name (.XML) on the command-line command.

Conclusion:

Maybe at first you were quite surprised by Microsoft's new way of downloading and installing, but it is really convenient when you deploy and install Office on many client computers in small and medium enterprises. In addition, using this tool is extremely safe & secure.
